In the final hours before the tribunal verdict, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State is engaged in one last dance of desperation. True to form, they have taken to their usual stage — the court of public manipulation — spreading fake news, peddling baseless accusations, and trying to rewrite reality with lies.

Their latest fabrication? That Senator Monday Okpebholo has spent endless nights in Abuja, desperately trying to access President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pleading for the President to influence tribunal judges in his favor. And yet — in the same breath — they claim Tinubu rigged the elections for the APC and is now “locking out” Okpebholo from the Presidential Villa.

The Irony is Blinding — Even for the PDP

Let’s unpack this absurd contradiction. The PDP insists Tinubu rigged the elections for the APC, which is why they claim to be in court. Now, they allege that Tinubu has refused to influence the courts for Okpebholo and has instead shut his doors on him.

Which is it? Is Tinubu the rigging mastermind they claim? Or the staunch defender of judicial independence who refuses to entertain political interference?

The PDP wants it both ways — to have their lies and eat them too. This isn’t just political inconsistency — it’s intellectual laziness, and Edo people are not fooled.

Asue Ighodalo: The Picture of Defeat

At the last tribunal sitting, Asue Ighodalo, the PDP’s much-hyped candidate, cut a lonely and shaken figure. Observers couldn’t help but notice his visibly tense demeanor. Far from the confident statesman his handlers tried to package, Ighodalo appeared abandoned, unable to muster the composure for even a simple interview. He declined media engagement, knowing perhaps that the verdict would not favor him. The silence was deafening — the body language of a man anticipating defeat.

Meanwhile, in Edo: A Governor at Work

Contrast this chaos with Governor Monday Okpebholo, who is not “running helter-skelter,” but running Edo with excellence. From daily inspections of transformative projects to bold initiatives that have reset governance standards, Okpebholo has proven that leadership is action, not noise.

In just 100 days, he has redefined early-term performance, setting a benchmark across the federation. While PDP fabricates drama, Edo people witness real development — roads built, lives improved, and a Governor in a hurry to leave Edo better than he met it.

Tinubu’s Statesmanship, Not Interference

Let it be clear: President Tinubu has refused to interfere with the judiciary — not for PDP, not for APC. His commitment to due process and judicial independence is a mark of true statesmanship, and that is why both Okpebholo and the PDP are subject to the same fair system. The PDP’s claim of being “shut out” is nothing more than a tantrum — a party angry that Tinubu won’t bend the rules in their favor.

Final Act: The Curtain Falls

The PDP’s wailing is their final act, a theatrical display of desperation as they await a verdict they already fear. Their efforts to paint Okpebholo as desperate and Tinubu as manipulative have collapsed under the weight of their own contradictions.
