Peter Obi: Citizens Should Not Be Fleeing Their Homes In A Nation Not At War

Labour Party’s former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has strongly condemned the recent attacks by suspected herdsmen in Bokkos, Plateau State, which reportedly claimed the lives of at least 52 residents.

“This level of violence is deeply troubling. Nigeria is not in a state of war, and no citizen should be subjected to such brutality or feel unsafe in their own homes,” Obi stated.

He emphasized the sanctity of human life, stressing that no Nigerian—regardless of their location—should have to live in constant fear or be displaced due to insecurity.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and affected communities. The trauma and grief caused by this senseless violence are immeasurable,” he said. “My thoughts are with the people of Bokkos, especially the displaced children, women, and entire households during this painful period.”

The former Anambra State governor urged the federal government and security agencies to intensify their efforts in combating the growing insecurity plaguing parts of the country.

“At a time like this, the nation needs strong leadership and compassion,” Obi added. “I stand with the people of Plateau State and fully support all initiatives aimed at fostering peace, justice, and healing.

“May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may the survivors find strength, comfort, and unity as they begin the journey toward recovery.”
