A multitude of concerned individuals hailing from the Ekpeye ethnic group, encompassing Ahoada-East and Ahoada-West Local Government areas, gathered today for a peaceful demonstration, demanding justice for the late SP Bako Angbashim, the DPO of Ahoada Division.

Marching from Isaac Boro Park to Police Headquarters on Moscow Road in Port Harcourt, the protesters called for the emancipation of Ekpeye land from the clutches of armed cult groups that have transformed the region into a perilous battleground. They fervently sought justice for the late SP Bako Angbashim, the valiant Divisional Police Officer who met his demise at the hands of a gang led by Gift David Okpara, also known as “2 Baba.”

The demonstrators implored the Police and other security agencies to put an end to the bloodshed in Ekpeye land and restore tranquility to the area.

Ugo Moses, a prominent leader of the group, rebuked the political leaders from the region for their perceived inaction in ensuring security within the area.

“We are weary. We can no longer rest with peace of mind. We can no longer conduct business as usual, as we are constantly haunted by fear. We wholeheartedly pledge our unwavering support to the security agencies in purging Ekpeye land of criminals and criminal activities. We demand justice. Please deliver justice for the late SP Bako Angbashim,” he declared.

In response, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ade Adepoju, representing Commissioner of Police Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka, assured that the perpetrators behind the demise of SP Bako Angbashim would face justice within the next two weeks.

“We’re equally deeply grieved because SP Bako was one of our fearless and highly efficient officers. We greatly mourn his loss. In operations of this nature, he would have been at the forefront leading the team. We miss this exceptional man and we are profoundly saddened by the manner in which he was brutally murdered. If you feel this pain, imagine the depth of our sorrow. We will have justice in two weeks. He had previously served in Bori and his colleagues there were all content with his service. Rest assured, we are leaving no stone unturned to bring his assailants to justice,” he affirmed.

Another protester emphasized that they can no longer return home, having been compelled to relocate their families from their respective communities.

The demonstrators bore placards with various messages, including “#Justice4SPBako,” “Bring The Killers of SP Bako to Book,” “Ekpeye Youths Are Against Killings,” and “Peace is Priceless,” among others.

Recalling the tragic event, SP Bako Angbashim, DPO of Ahoada Division, fell victim to an ambush in Odemude community in Ahoad-East by the Iceland Cult group, led by Gift David Okpara, alias “2 Baba.” The gang callously dismembered his body and created a gruesome video of his remains, reveling in their atrocious act.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara vowed a N100 million bounty for anyone providing information leading to the capture of Gift David Okpara and his gang. Additionally, the State Police Command offered an additional N1 million bounty, totaling N101 million.

During a press briefing by CP Emeka on Wednesday, September 20, he announced that four members of the 2Baba cult gang had been neutralized in a shootout. Bako Angbashim met his untimely demise on the night of September 8, 2023, at their hideout in Odemude Forest, Ahoada-East Local Government Area. It was later disclosed that the gang had deceived him, feigning surrender and a willingness to seek state pardon, only to set an ambush and ruthlessly end his life and the lives of his team members.
