Political Earthquake: Obaseki Family Turns Back on PDP, Endorses Okpebholo

In a dramatic shift ahead of the Edo State elections, the influential Obaseki family, numbering over 200 members, has publicly renounced their allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and thrown their weight behind Senator Monday Okpebholo, the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

During a well-attended mega rally in Oredo LGA, Osaro Obaseki, the leader of the family faction, voiced the collective frustration of the Obasekis with their relative, Governor Godwin Obaseki. “We have stood by him since 2016, but he has failed Edo and shown disrespect to our revered Oba,” Osaro Obaseki declared, signaling the family’s departure from supporting the governor.

The Obaseki family members emphasized their belief in Senator Okpebholo as the right leader to steer Edo State away from what they described as the failures of the current administration. They praised the transformation seen during former Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s tenure, citing it as a key reason for their defection to the APC.

This unexpected defection is seen as a significant setback for the PDP’s chances in the upcoming election. With the Obaseki name carrying substantial political weight in the state, the APC is poised to leverage this development to strengthen its position as the front-runner in the race for Edo’s governorship.
