Pro-Democracy Group Accuses Zamfara Governor Of Failed Promises And Mismanagement (View Text)

The Zamfara Initiative for Good Governance, a pro-democracy group, has raised serious concerns over Governor Dauda Lawal’s alleged failure to deliver on his election promises and his mismanagement of key sectors in the state.

According to the group, Governor Lawal has fallen short in addressing critical areas such as security, healthcare, agriculture, education, civil service, and women and youth empowerment. The group criticized the governor for adopting a “trial and error” approach to governance and failing to fulfill his commitment to providing security within his first 100 days in office.

The statement signed by Hon. Lawal Usman Mohammed, the group’s chairman, highlighted the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara State, with armed bandits wreaking havoc across all 14 local government areas. The group accused the governor of prioritizing foreign trips in search of investors while neglecting the pressing security challenges at home.

Furthermore, the group lamented the ineffective fight against banditry, citing the governor’s failure to adequately fund and equip the Community Protection Guards and provide necessary support to security agencies. As a result, millions of people have been internally displaced, exacerbating hunger and poverty in the state.

Additionally, the group criticized the governor’s recent “legacy projects,” describing them as mere renovations and remodels of existing infrastructure rather than entirely new initiatives. It questioned the need for elaborate ceremonies and the wasteful expenditure of public funds on projects funded by previous administrations or federal government schemes.
