According to IREPORTERONLINE , Trump, in a statement on his Truth Social platform on Sunday, accused South African leaders of human rights violations, claiming that the country’s land laws were unfair. He further stated that the U.S. would halt all financial aid to South Africa until an investigation into the matter was conducted.

Trump’s Accusations and Funding Freeze

Trump alleged that South Africa was seizing land and discriminating against certain groups of people.

“South Africa is confiscating land and treating certain classes of people unfairly. This is a serious human rights violation that the radical left media refuses to talk about. The U.S. will not stand for it, and I will be cutting off all future funding to South Africa until a full investigation is carried out.”

Ramaphosa’s Response to Trump’s Claims

In a statement on Monday morning, President Ramaphosa defended the Expropriation Act, explaining that it was designed to promote equity in land ownership rather than serve as a tool for confiscation.

“South Africa is a constitutional democracy founded on the rule of law, justice, and equality. The government has not confiscated any land. The recently enacted Expropriation Act is a constitutionally guided process that ensures fair access to land for public use while protecting property rights.”

Ramaphosa emphasized that land expropriation laws exist in many countries, including the United States, and assured that South Africa remains committed to fair land policies.

“We look forward to engaging with the Trump administration on our land reform policy and other bilateral issues. We are confident that these discussions will foster a mutual understanding.”

U.S.-South Africa Relations and Financial Aid

Ramaphosa also clarified that South Africa does not rely on U.S. funding, except for PEPFAR Aid, which covers 17% of the country’s HIV/AIDS program.

“The U.S. remains an important strategic partner for South Africa in both politics and trade. Apart from PEPFAR, South Africa does not receive direct financial assistance from the United States.”

The upcoming meeting between Ramaphosa and Trump is expected to address land reform concerns, diplomatic relations, and economic cooperation between both nations.
