Commissioner of Police for the state, Aderemi Adeoye, conveyed this information during an interview with journalists in Awka on Monday.

In the aftermath of Easter Sunday, during which at least five individuals were killed, and an undisclosed number were gunned down in various locations in the town, Aderemi addressed the concerning rise in violence.

Expressing the command’s concern, Aderemi stated that they were liaising with the judiciary to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the release of the suspected cult members.

He emphasized that the police had not received official reports on the alleged killings on Sunday and urged anyone with pertinent information to come forward and assist law enforcement.

Aderemi highlighted the effectiveness of the security measures implemented by the command, which had previously maintained a six-month period without any cult-related killings in Awka.

Regarding the resurgence of violence over the Easter weekend, Aderemi attributed it to the release of remanded cultists, stating that he had already engaged with the Attorney General to investigate how these individuals regained their freedom, with a commitment to address the issue through legal channels.
