a refreshing change as the FCT Parks and Recreation Department takes bold steps to revitalize the city’s parks and gardens. Under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the department is reshaping these spaces into family-friendly retreats, blending recreation with relaxation and promoting mental well-being.

Previously neglected green spaces and conservation zones have been restored to their intended purpose—offering a safe environment for families to unwind and connect with nature. This effort, led by Mr. Chinemelu Echee Rowland, Director of Parks and Recreation, is a testament to the renewed focus on creating vibrant, inclusive spaces for Abuja residents.

Mr. Rowland emphasizes the importance of transforming these spaces beyond just social hubs for nightlife. “Our parks should be safe, inclusive spaces where children, families, and individuals can enjoy the beauty of nature without compromising their well-being,” he states.

As urbanization continues to expand, the role of green spaces becomes increasingly vital. Parks and gardens provide an oasis amidst the hustle and bustle, offering much-needed respite for mental and physical health. With initiatives like children’s playgrounds, water parks, and scenic trails, the FCT Parks and Recreation Department is pushing boundaries to create diverse, engaging spaces for all age groups.

The department’s approach aligns with global best practices, encouraging garden owners to adopt innovative, inclusive business models that cater to a broader demographic. This strategic effort ensures that these spaces remain inviting, eco-friendly, and sustainable for future generations.

Through continuous collaboration with stakeholders and a commitment to safety and family-friendly standards, Abuja’s parks are evolving into thriving community hubs. In doing so, they embody President Tinubu’s vision of a city where families find joy and relaxation, fostering a stronger, more connected society.
