The mother of former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, Hajiya Umma, has passed away. According to reports, she died on Friday afternoon, March 27, 2026. The development was confirmed by her grandson, Bello El-Rufai, who spoke to Daily Trust.

Details surrounding her death remain limited, but her passing comes less than a week after El-Rufai lost his sister-in-law.

In a related legal matter, the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday raised fresh concerns about the ₦1 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by El-Rufai against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and four other respondents. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik expressed dissatisfaction after El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ugochukwu Nnakwu, reported that the second respondent, a magistrate, had not yet been served.

All other parties, except the second respondent, were represented in court. During proceedings, the ICPC’s lawyer, Isaac Akwo, requested a brief adjournment to allow his senior counsel, Abdu Mohammed (SAN), to appear. The judge declined the request due to a prior engagement.

Justice Abdulmalik instructed Nnakwu to specify the magistrate named in the suit. The lawyer subsequently applied for an adjournment to regularize the service process, which was not opposed by the attorneys representing other respondents, including R.N. Maiguru, the Inspector-General of Police, and Chima Augustine, the Attorney-General of the Federation.
