Sanusi Reveals Why It’s Unfair To Blame Tinubu For Current Economic Hardship In Nigeria

Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Muhammadu Sanusi, expressed his views on the economic hardship in Nigeria during a virtual religious event. He emphasized that it would be unfair to blame President Bola Tinubu for the current economic challenges.

Sanusi clarified that Nigerians who expected him to criticize the president were attempting to provoke him to go against President Tinubu.

He highlighted the economic mismanagement during the previous administration, including a reliance on a fake lifestyle and accumulating significant foreign and domestic debts, with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s debt exceeding N30 trillion.

While Sanusi acknowledged that President Tinubu is not without fault, he refrained from blaming him for the current economic situation.

He stressed that it would be unjust to attribute the economic challenges solely to President Tinubu, considering the need to remove the fuel subsidy, which Nigeria can ill afford.

Sanusi also mentioned that he had been warning about impending crises and economic challenges over the years, and any economist studying monetary policy in the last eight years would have foreseen the difficulties Nigeria is facing today.
