Governor Alia Suspends SUBEB Chair, Others in Line with Assembly Resolution

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has approved the suspension of three key public officials—Dr. Grace Adagba, Chairperson of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB); Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area; and Mr. Michael Uper, Secretary of the Benue State Lottery Board.

According to iReporter Online, the suspension of the officials is for an initial period of one month and is in line with the resolution passed by the Benue State House of Assembly.

A statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, confirmed the development, noting that Governor Alia is fully upholding the constitutional powers of the legislature.

“In line with the resolutions passed by the House, His Excellency affirms the suspension of Mr. Maxwell Ogiri, Dr. Grace Adagba, and Mr. Michael Uper, for a period of one month, effective from Wednesday,” the statement read.

Governor Alia reiterated his commitment to due process, the rule of law, and the principle of separation of powers.

He also commended the Assembly for fulfilling its oversight duties.

The Benue State House of Assembly has reportedly suspended the screening of commissioner nominees pending full compliance with its resolutions—a move seen as a strong push for checks and balances.
