Sh*ck In Taraba: Two Senators Quit PDP For APC

Two Senators representing Taraba State in the National Assembly have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), according to Ireporter Online. The lawmakers, Haruna Manu of Taraba Central and Shuaibu Lau of Taraba North, announced their decisions in separate letters addressed to the Senate, which were read during Thursday’s plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Senator Lau cited concerns over the PDP’s internal direction as his motivation for the defection. “I hereby express my intention to defect from the People’s Democratic Party and to join the All Progressives Congress. I have become increasingly concerned about the party’s direction on internal issues,” he stated in his letter.

Senator Manu explained that his move followed extensive consultations with his constituents, political associates, and other stakeholders. “I formally notify the Senate of my decision to withdraw my membership from the PDP and to align myself with the All Progressives Congress. This decision reflects deep reflection, consultations, and an assessment of the developmental aspirations of the people I represent,” he said.

Senate President Akpabio cautioned the APC on managing its growing membership to prevent internal conflicts while noting that the party remains open to receiving defectors from other opposition parties.

With the addition of the two lawmakers, the Senate now comprises 80 members of the APC, 21 from the PDP, 2 from the Labour Party (LP), and one member each from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
