According to Police Prosecutor, Inspector Kefas Usman, the suspects unlawfully gained access to the Global Signature Hotel in Ibadan by disarming the security guards. They proceeded to vandalize the security system, including destroying CCTV footage, before raiding the hotel’s control room.

The accused allegedly forced the hotel manager, Dare Akinola, at gunpoint, to hand over over N2,140,000, which included sales from rooms, the bar, and hall bookings. They also went through guest rooms, compelling customers to transfer money into Olushakin’s personal account under duress.

In total, they stole money, equipment, and documents during their brutal attack on the hotel. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Giwa Babalola, has remanded the suspects in Agodi Correctional Center, while the case is adjourned until January 29, 2025.

Meanwhile, a manhunt for Olushakin has been launched, with the Oyo State Police offering a N5 million reward for information leading to his arrest.

The charges against the suspects include armed robbery and conspiracy, with the potential for significant legal consequences if convicted. The case highlights the growing concern over security at hotels and businesses in the region.
