Shettima Stands In For Tinubu As Fasoranti Marks 100th Birthday In Akure

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday represented President Bola Tinubu at the centenary birthday celebration of elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, held in Akure, Ondo State.

According to Ireporter Online, Shettima was warmly received on arrival at the Akure Airport by Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and several top political figures and dignitaries who gathered ahead of the historic celebration.

A statement issued by the Vice President’s spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, indicated that Shettima was present to convey the goodwill of the Federal Government to Fasoranti, whom he described as a towering figure in Nigeria’s socio-political history. He further portrayed Fasoranti as a revered elder statesman, a committed disciple of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and one of the last surviving members of the Awoist political tradition, having served in key roles including Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State.

In a related development, 12 Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in 2014 have graduated from the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Adamawa State.

Vice President Shettima, speaking through the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu, at the institution’s 17th convocation ceremony, commended the university for providing a supportive academic environment that enabled the girls to complete their studies.

He described their graduation as a powerful symbol of resilience and national recovery, noting that it reflects the importance of girls’ education to Nigeria’s future. Shettima added that the achievement of the Chibok girls underscores the central role of education in driving national development and restoring hope.
