JAMB Authorises Use Of Personal Computers For UTME

The disclosure was made by the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja.

According to the Registrar, the new system will allow candidates to use their own devices, with a specially configured flash drive inserted into each computer to safeguard the examination and prevent malpractice.

Professor Oloyede explained that the innovation is expected to reduce operational costs, simplify examination logistics, and address the recurring complaints from candidates whose computers unexpectedly shut down during the test.

He noted that the initiative is designed to make the examination process more convenient for candidates while preserving the credibility and integrity of the UTME.

The JAMB Registrar also revealed that several other technological innovations, currently at an advanced stage of development, are expected to be introduced alongside the new system in 2027.

In a related development, the Federal Ministry of Education announced that candidates seeking admission into Federal Colleges of Education will no longer be required to sit for the UTME.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, made the announcement at the same policy meeting in Abuja.

The exemption, according to the minister, will also apply to applicants seeking admission into programmes in technology, agriculture, and other related disciplines.

Dr. Alausa stated that the policy is aimed at expanding access to critical educational and skills-based programmes across the country.

He, however, emphasized that candidates benefiting from the exemption must still possess the relevant O’Level qualifications required for admission.
