Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of the Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, Barinada Mpigi.

According to media reports, a source confirmed the lawmaker’s passing on Thursday, although details surrounding the circumstances of his death were not immediately made public. The sad development was also confirmed by Akin Alabi, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Works, who paid tribute to the late senator in a post shared on his official handle. In his message, Alabi described Mpigi as a dear friend and prayed for his peaceful repose, noting his representation of Rivers South East in the Senate.

In a statement issued through his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, Governor Fubara described the late lawmaker as a brother, a dedicated politician, and a respected leader in Rivers State. He lamented that Mpigi’s death occurred at a time when his experience and contributions were still invaluable to the state and the nation, praying for God to grant him eternal rest.

The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Rivers South East Senatorial District, and members of the Senate, urging them to draw strength from the impactful and meaningful life the late senator lived.

Senator Mpigi, who died at the age of 64, served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works until his passing.
