Soaring Prices Of Diabetes Medications Threaten Lives Of Millions In Nigeria

the high costs are compounded by poverty, a lack of trained healthcare professionals, and limited diabetes care facilities. He noted that insulin, which once cost around N4,000, now sells for about N18,000, making it unaffordable for many.
The association called for urgent government intervention, including subsidies for diabetes medications, a tax waiver on imported diabetes supplies, and the reintroduction of a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages to fund diabetes care initiatives. Additionally, DAN recommended a comprehensive survey on non-communicable diseases to inform health policy and improve the lives of Nigerians affected by diabetes.
