Last Thursday, DHQ confirmed the rise of this new terrorist faction, active in the northern regions of Sokoto and Kebbi states, with members reportedly entering from the Niger Republic and Mali, particularly following the recent coup in Niger.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Media Operations, indicated that community members have been hesitant to report the group’s movements, contributing to its spread. Recently, Lukarawa attacked Mera town in Augie Local Government Area, Kebbi State, killing 15 people and seizing 100 cattle.

Buba further revealed that Lukarawa is using social media and welfare incentives to attract young recruits. Despite these tactics, DHQ is closely monitoring the group’s activities and taking steps to halt its growth.
