ASUU Fires Back At IMF, World Bank: They’re Waging War On Nigeria’s Public Universities
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has raised an alert regarding a perceived threat to Nigeria’s public university system. Prof. Osodeke expressed disappointment over the delayed renegotiation of the union’s 2009 agreement with the Federal Government, emphasizing that despite various agreements, renegotiation remains uncompleted.
Additionally, Osodeke criticized the ongoing implementation of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) in universities, despite official statements indicating plans for its removal from tertiary institutions.
Addressing ASUU members nationwide, he praised their dedication to advancing Nigeria’s public university system. Prof. Osodeke also announced that, as part of Heroes Day, ASUU will award PhD grants of N500,000 each to select members from public universities based on proposal assessments.
Honorees Included: Prof. T. Uzodinma Nwala, Prof. Bright Ekuerhare, Prof. Oye Oyediran, Mallam Bashir Kurfi, and others who have contributed significantly to Nigeria’s education.
