illicit drugs.

In an interview with ireporteronline, the state Commander Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad detailed that among those apprehended were 1,301 males and 44 females. The seized drugs included a variety of substances such as hemp, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, codeine, and over five million tramadol tablets.

Furthermore, the command successfully secured 128 convictions for multiple drug-related offenses.

To enhance operational efficiency, the agency launched ‘Operation Hana Maye’ (Operation Stop Drug Abuse), aimed at addressing drug abuse while promoting a safer environment for all in Kano State. As part of this initiative, more than 20 drug joints located in notorious areas—including Filin Idi, Dan Agundi, Sani Abacha Youth Center, and Sani Abacha Stadium—were dismantled.

Idris-Ahmad added that the agency had conducted 1,114 drug integrity tests for prospective council election candidates to foster responsible leadership and good governance. Additionally, the NDLEA executed 207 anti-drug campaigns and performed 202 visa clearance tests to prevent drug trafficking and protect the nation’s reputation.

The commander also highlighted the rehabilitation program, which successfully counseled and reintegrated 101 drug addicts back into society.

Idris-Ahmad expressed gratitude to retired Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba-Marwa, Chairman of the NDLEA, for his continued support, as well as to the Kano State Government, sister security agencies, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders for their unwavering assistance in the fight against drug abuse.

He commended the dedication, professionalism, and relentless efforts of the officers and members of the command. “We will maintain our commitment, utilizing intelligence-driven operations and fostering community partnerships to dismantle drug trafficking networks and ensure a safer and healthier society for all,” the commander assured.
