Senate President Godswill Akpabio has threatened legal action against the contractor responsible for renovating the National Assembly complex over repeated technical failures affecting microphones in both chambers.

According to Ireporter Online, Akpabio expressed his displeasure during plenary on Wednesday after lawmakers experienced difficulties with malfunctioning microphones while participating in debates.

The Senate President described the recurring issues as a major embarrassment to the National Assembly and the country, warning that necessary legal steps would be taken against the contractor if the problems persisted.

Akpabio urged senators to take note of the repeated faults, stating that the continued breakdown of the equipment was unacceptable and provided sufficient grounds for action against those responsible.

He recalled that he and the Speaker of the House of Representatives were embarrassed by similar technical problems during the opening ceremony of the National Assembly Week, where he represented the Senate.

According to him, the same contractor who handled the renovation of the House of Representatives was also responsible for the Senate project.

Akpabio stressed that the National Assembly would not hesitate to pursue legal measures to ensure the contractor delivers a quality job, adding that the situation had brought unnecessary embarrassment to the nation.
