Super Falcons’ UK Tour Cancelled As Jamaica Withdraws From Friendly Clash

According to Ireporter Online, plans for the Super Falcons of Nigeria’s proposed training tour of the United Kingdom have been called off following the withdrawal of Jamaica from a scheduled international friendly.

The tour, which was initially slated for May 23 to 28, was arranged as part of the team’s preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The friendly against Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz was expected to offer the reigning African champions valuable tactical assessment and match fitness ahead of the continental tournament.

However, reports indicate that the fixture was cancelled due to administrative challenges on the part of the Jamaican football authorities, a development that ultimately led to the scrapping of the entire UK tour arrangement.

The setback adds to a series of disrupted engagements for the Super Falcons, who had earlier seen their planned April double-header friendlies against Cape Verde collapse after the opposition team pulled out, leaving the Nigerian side without competitive action during that international window.

With the latest cancellation, attention now shifts to the next FIFA-sanctioned women’s international window in June, where Nigeria is expected to secure alternative opponents for preparation matches.

Head coach Justine Madugu last led the team to action in March, when the Super Falcons recorded a 3-1 away victory over Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses in Yaoundé.

The nine-time African champions are intensifying preparations to defend their title at the 2026 WAFCON in Morocco, a tournament that will also serve as a qualifying pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
