Suspected Herdsmen Attack Ebonyi Community, Leaving Many Dead And Injured

According to Vanguard, the exact number of casualties remains unknown at this time. However, reports indicate that the attackers stormed the community armed with cutlasses and firearms, killing several people and setting houses ablaze.

Authorities Respond to the Attack

The Chairperson of Ishielu LGA, Mrs. Ifeoma Agwu, confirmed the attack but stated that the full casualty figure was still being determined as bodies were being recovered.

“We are currently evacuating the victims’ bodies to the mortuary. I cannot provide full details at this moment, but more information will be made available later,” she said.

A local resident and former EBSU ASUU chairman, Prof. Ndubuisi Idenyi, also confirmed the attack, describing it as a “black Sunday” for the community.

“My village, Amegu Nkalaha, was attacked today by herdsmen. Many people have been killed, and several houses have been burned down,” he lamented.

Ongoing Search for Victims

Prof. Idenyi further revealed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, adding that many victims were still being located.

“We do not yet have the full casualty count. We are still searching for and recovering the bodies, including those killed while working on their farms,” he said.

Police Yet to Confirm Incident

When contacted, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Joshua Ukandu, stated that he had not yet been briefed on the attack but promised to investigate and provide updates.
