Rev. Uma Ukpai, who was widely respected for his evangelistic missions and nationwide crusades, passed away on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80. The family announced his demise in a statement titled “Glorious Transition,” describing it as his peaceful passage into glory.

Dwight disclosed during an interview that his father had long hinted at the timing of his departure. He explained that certain dreams and impressions over the past few years seemed to foreshadow the evangelist’s death, though he didn’t fully comprehend them until recently.

“I can’t speak for all my siblings, but I noticed a few things. Some years ago, I had dreams about events that happened this year, even though I didn’t understand them at the time. My father had also mentioned that he would leave at a particular time. Though we prayed for more years with him, we knew God’s plans are always perfect,” Dwight said.

Reflecting on their last moments together, he recalled that his father appeared intentional about spending more time with them in the months leading up to his death. “He tried not to make it obvious that he was leaving us,” he said. “At our last youth conference in Uyo, he insisted on attending despite having travelled a long distance earlier. He came not to preach, but simply to encourage us. He even told one of my siblings, ‘Take care of your mother.’ Barely two weeks later, he was gone.”

“There were many sacrifices we made as a family,” he said. “We didn’t always have him around, but we understood that he was fulfilling God’s mission. Over time, we embraced that calling too. We believed there was no greater purpose than serving God, even when it meant travelling to distant towns and villages for his crusades.”
