The Osun State Police have apprehended a 17-year-old girl who allegedly used social media to lure a victim from Lagos to Osun. The spokesperson for the command, SP Yemisi Opalola, disclosed this information in Osogbo on Tuesday.
According to Opalola, the victim was enticed to Ikire in Irewole Local Government Area by the teenager on June 28. The girl reportedly collaborated with other suspects and robbed the man of his phone, which they then used to transfer N1.5 million from his bank account.
Opalola stated, “On June 28, at about 1:30 p.m, a complainant reported at Ikire Police Division that he met a girl (whose name is withheld) on social media, and they started chatting. He added that he was later invited to come to Osun from Lagos State by the girl. He stated further that when he came to Ikire, the girl lured him to her boyfriend’s house where he met some unscrupulous individuals who attacked him and took his phone, which they used to transfer the sum of N1.5 million from his account.”
Upon receiving the report, the police detectives swiftly took action and apprehended the suspect and an accomplice named Ariyo Ayobami at their hideout. Subsequently, another accomplice was arrested through preliminary investigations, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Opalola further revealed that on July 10, officers of the command arrested two suspects in Ilorin, Kwara State, who were found in possession of a car that was stolen at gunpoint from a residence in Osun. The victim had reported an attack by three armed men at his home on May 11, during which they robbed him of valuables and two Toyota Camry cars valued at over N12.46 million. The investigation led the police to Ilorin, where Abdulwasiu Jato and Kolawole Iwalaye were apprehended with one of the stolen cars, while another suspected stolen car, a 2012 Toyota Corolla, was also recovered from their possession.
In addition, on July 9, the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad arrested six armed robbery suspects who had been terrorizing motorists at Aba-Ede Junction on the Osu-Ile-Ife highway.
Opalola concluded by stating that all the suspects would be charged to court once the investigations are completed.
