Tension As Tribunal Takes Decision On Judgement In Suit Challenging Ebonyi Gov Nwifuru’s Victory

The Governorship Election Tribunal for Ebonyi State, situated in Abuja, has postponed its judgement in response to the petition submitted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ifeanyi Odii, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Professor Benard Odoh.

Both the PDP and APGA candidates are contesting the victory of Francis Nwifuru, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was declared the winner of the governorship election held on March 18.

The petitioners are urging the tribunal to invalidate the election of the APC candidate, claiming that he was not a legitimate member of the APC during the election period. They assert that the governor was inadequately endorsed by his party, alleging that he remained affiliated with the PDP at the time of the election.

However, the legal representative for the APC candidate, Arthur Okafor, counterargued that his client was duly nominated by the APC and lawfully secured victory in the election.
