Tensions Boil Over Buhari’s Burial: APC Accuses ADC Of National Disrespect
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fiercely criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its remarks concerning the state burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the comments as both insensitive and disgraceful.
According to iReporter Online, the APC issued a statement on Saturday through its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, condemning the ADC’s reaction to the late president’s burial rites.
The APC expressed outrage at what it called the ADC’s “unconscionable and politically charged” response to a solemn national moment, stressing that the state burial was a dignified gesture to honour the late Buhari’s service to the country. According to iReporter Online, the ruling party accused the ADC of deliberately mischaracterizing President Bola Tinubu’s expression of compassion and national responsibility as political exploitation.
“The ADC’s claim that the Tinubu-led administration is using Buhari’s death for political gain is not only despicable but also reflective of a party that lacks basic human decency,” the APC declared. It accused the ADC of being “a refuge for Nigeria’s politically displaced,” asserting that the party’s actions were those of a group chasing attention at the expense of national unity and respect for the dead.
The APC questioned what the ADC expected President Tinubu to do—ignore the passing of a former leader, refuse to honour him with a befitting burial, or withhold sympathy from the grieving Buhari family. According to iReporter Online, the party labeled the ADC’s rhetoric as “beyond the pale” and accused its leaders of allowing their desperation for relevance to override all sense of decorum and humanity.
The APC emphasized that the late President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with distinction as a soldier, a former military Head of State, and a democratically elected President for two terms. The party highlighted that he left behind a mourning family and a grieving nation that deserves to honour his legacy with dignity.
President Tinubu, the APC noted, acted out of patriotism and personal grief for a political ally and predecessor, by participating in and overseeing the ceremonies. The party urged Nigerians to be wary of what it described as “political marauders” from the ADC, whose only mission, it said, is to mislead the public and malign those working for the progress of the country.
