The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) after police responded to reports of a man banging on a door and wielding what appeared to be a firearm. Investigators later determined the weapon was a dummy gun.

Sources close to the investigation revealed the man, aged 30, was heavily intoxicated at the time. When officers confronted him, he allegedly pointed the imitation weapon at them and shouted “Allahu Akbar,” meaning “God is greatest.”

In response, one officer fired three shots, striking the man once. Emergency services provided immediate assistance, but he succumbed to his injuries.

Police body cameras captured the entire incident. It was later disclosed that the man had a prior record, including a 2019 conviction for “apology for terrorism.”

The case has been referred to the IGPN, France’s internal police watchdog, as part of standard procedures for police shootings. Initial tests confirmed the officer involved was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
