Edo Court Issues Restraining Order, Stops Police From Arresting Obaseki’s Supporters

of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July.

The group, which includes political appointees, local government chairmen, aides, and other allies of Obaseki, filed the lawsuit, numbered B/266M/2024.

The Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Force CID Abuja), and the Police Service Commission (PSC) are named as defendants in the case.

Represented by their lawyer, Olayiwola Afolabi SAN, the applicants sought protection from arrest until the case is resolved. The court granted their request, issuing an interim injunction that bars the police from taking any action against them based on the petition.

Justice A. T. Momodu, in granting the order, ruled that the respondents—either individually or through officers under their command—are restrained from inviting, arresting, or detaining the applicants in relation to the petition submitted by the APC chairman on July 18, 2024. The order is in effect until the case is fully heard and decided.

The court also ordered that the enrolled order be served alongside the originating motion on the respondents.
