Terror On Edo Highway: Police Rescue 16 Travellers From Kidnappers’ Den
the Edo State Police Command confirmed on Saturday that 16 passengers kidnapped along the Benin-Auchi Road have been rescued. Spokesperson for the command, Moses Yamu, disclosed that the incident occurred on Friday around 4:30 p.m. when armed men forced travellers into the bush.
A video circulating on Saturday morning showed an abandoned Edoline bus and a Toyota Corolla at the scene, with a male voice narrating that about 18 passengers had been abducted. The clip also captured police operatives mobilizing at the scene, while several motorists parked their vehicles, uncertain whether it was safe to proceed.
According to the narrator, the victims in the Edoline bus were en route to Abuja when they were intercepted by the kidnappers. He urged stranded drivers to continue their journey, assuring them that security agents were already engaged in a rescue operation.
When contacted, Yamu confirmed that 16 abducted passengers had been freed but declined to specify the total number of victims. He explained that police officers, working in collaboration with local vigilantes and hunters, have intensified search-and-rescue efforts to secure the release of the remaining hostages.
“The kidnapping took place on Friday at about 16:30 hours. Sixteen of the victims have been rescued so far, while the search and rescue operation continues in partnership with vigilantes and hunters,” Yamu stated.
