According to reports, the priest was abducted around 9:15 PM and was found dead the following morning. The Chancellor of Kafanchan Catholic Archdiocese, Reverend Father Jacob Shanet, officially announced the news, describing the late priest as a devoted servant of God.

Until his unfortunate demise, Reverend Father Okechukwu served as the Priest in charge of St. Mary Catholic Church, Tachira. While the motive behind his killing remains unclear, the Catholic community and his loved ones are mourning his untimely death.

Reverend Father Shanet expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasizing the priest’s dedication to his parishioners and his unwavering commitment to spreading peace, love, and hope.

“This untimely and brutal loss has left us heartbroken. Fr. Sylvester was always available and accessible to his people. His death is a great loss to our diocesan family, and we share in the pain of his passing with his family and all who knew him,” the statement read.

The Catholic Church has urged the faithful to pray for the repose of the priest’s soul while also calling on the youth and members of the Takad community to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their hands. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
