The brazen attack unfolded on a fateful Tuesday evening, leaving the residents of Ogurugu grappling with the harsh reality of insecurity that has plagued their locality. The assailants, whose motives remain unclear, successfully seized the four women and spirited them away to an unknown location.
The incident adds another somber chapter to the ongoing security challenges that have besieged the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, where herders and local militias have consistently targeted vulnerable communities.
In particular, the Ogboli axis and Ogurugu community have become focal points for criminal activities, including kidnappings.
Expressing deep concern over the escalating rate of abductions, a source from the community, identified as Nick Ogbebe, shared the distressing details with SaharaReporters. He revealed, “On Tuesday, four individuals were abducted in the Ogurugu community. These are poor mothers and farmers working in a new palm plantation company to support their families.”
With an air of uncertainty surrounding the fate of the abducted women, Ogbebe called for prayers from the wider community.
The absence of official statements from the Enugu State Police Command at the time of reporting only deepened the apprehension, leaving the community anxiously awaiting updates on the unfolding crisis.
As Ogurugu grapples with this tragic incident, the collective hope of the community remains tethered to a swift and effective response from the authorities to secure the release of the kidnapped women and restore a semblance of security to the beleaguered enclave
