“The Party Is in Disarray” – Fayose Blasts PDP, Foresees Election Defeat
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has predicted a dismal outcome for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming 2027 general elections, asserting that the party may finish in fourth place. He made this assertion during a televised political interview on Friday night, where he lamented the deepening internal issues plaguing the party.
Fayose expressed regret over his absence at the recent National Executive Committee meeting but emphasized that his concerns about the party remain valid. According to him, the PDP is facing systemic dysfunction, with members operating independently and the leadership appearing fractured. He noted that these issues have significantly eroded the party’s structure and public confidence.
The PDP has faced a series of internal crises in recent years, leading to the defection of prominent figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark. These defections have reportedly bolstered the opposition bloc that has aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In the same interview, Fayose made a striking remark about President Bola Tinubu, describing him as the “shortest distance” for political power to return to northern Nigeria. He recalled a past conversation with Tinubu, in which the president had said the quickest path to balance power between the North and South was through the All Progressives Congress (APC). Fayose admitted he did not fully grasp the implication of the statement at the time but believes it has now become evident in Nigeria’s political realignment.
He concluded that the PDP is now a fragmented political entity, with many of its members pursuing personal agendas. Describing the current state of affairs, he said the party has become a “carcass,” with no central control or unified direction, and warned that continued disunity would further derail its relevance ahead of 2027.
