Tinubu Approves Renewal Of Owoeye’s Tenure As Yaba Neuropsychiatric Hospital MD

According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has confirmed the reappointment of Dr. Olugbenga Owoeye as the Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba, Lagos. The renewal, announced through a statement by the hospital’s Director of Administration, Dr. Adeyinka Antwi, will take effect from June 1, 2025.

Dr. Owoeye’s previous four-year tenure ended on May 31, 2025, after which he continued to oversee the hospital in an acting capacity pending official approval from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.

A senior consultant at the institution, Owoeye began his medical journey after graduating from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 1994. He qualified as a psychiatrist in 2003 and later obtained both a Master’s and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Lagos in 2005 and 2009.

He is a member of several respected professional associations, including the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria, the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian Psychological Association, and the Nigerian Institute of Management. He is also an International Certified Addiction Professional (ICAP I & II).

Over the years, Dr. Owoeye has led various committees focused on strengthening mental health care, secured multiple research grants, authored more than 30 academic publications, and written a book. His portfolio also includes participation in numerous local and international training programmes and conferences.
