The 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu is closely monitoring the unfolding political developments in the state. Cole disclosed that the president intends to engage with key political stakeholders in Rivers when he deems the timing appropriate.

Speaking during an appearance on a national television programme on Sunday, Cole suggested that the president’s caution stems from his belief that the present circumstances are not yet conducive for such high-level discussions. However, he expressed certainty that a meeting between the presidency and Rivers leaders would take place in due course.

Cole, who also announced his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, lamented that Rivers State has suffered from years of inadequate leadership. He identified himself as the leader of the APC in the state but confirmed that he has not held consultations with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
