Tinubu Has No CPC Endorsement Yet – Malami Dismisses Political Claims

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has dismissed assertions by Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura’s faction that the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) bloc within the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election and ruled out any defection.

According to Vanguard, Malami, through his media aide, Muhammed Bello Doka, clarified that only the authentic CPC bloc—originally founded by former President Muhammadu Buhari—holds the authority to make declarations on its political stance, not Al-Makura’s group.

Malami questioned the credibility of the group’s endorsement, pointing out that several individuals in the faction, including Senator Al-Makura, Adamu Adamu, Bello Masari, and Faruk Adamu Aliyu, had previously criticized Buhari in what he described as a bid for personal political relevance.

“When people refer to the CPC bloc, we must ask who exactly they mean,” Malami said. “Are we talking about those who, not long ago, openly criticized Buhari in a desperate move to stay politically relevant? Their endorsement is their personal decision and does not reflect the collective will of the CPC bloc.”

Malami also addressed the rumours surrounding potential defection from the APC, emphasizing that any decision to leave or remain with the party would be made by the CPC bloc as a whole—not by individuals acting in their own interest.

In response to speculation that he might join the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Malami firmly denied the claims, describing them as unfounded. He added that as a prominent public figure, he would not make such a political move in secrecy.

“Malami remains a member of the APC and is currently consulting with various political groups. Any decision regarding a switch in party affiliation or declaration of political ambition will be made openly once those consultations are complete,” his aide stated.

Malami reaffirmed his continued engagement in active politics and reiterated his right to associate with any political platform and seek elective positions, particularly in Kebbi State.

Meanwhile, Senator Al-Makura, alongside former Katsina State governor Bello Masari, former Education Minister Adamu Adamu, and about 20 other political figures, had earlier issued a communiqué declaring their unwavering support for President Tinubu and loyalty to the APC.
