Tinubu Ignored My Advice Not to Run for Presidency – Soyinka
Nigerian literary icon and dramatist, Prof Wole Soyinka, disclosed that President Bola Tinubu ignored his advice not to run for the presidency. Soyinka, who recently paid a courtesy visit to Tinubu at his Lagos home, characterized the visit as “embarrassing” since it followed his previous attempt to dissuade Tinubu from running for office.
During the visit, Soyinka stated that he presented a seven-point agenda to the President and engaged in a thorough discussion on those items. The Nobel Laureate expressed his concerns about Tinubu ignoring his advice to step aside from politics, emphasizing that his last attempt to dissuade Tinubu was about five years ago.
Soyinka clarified that the purpose of his visit was to check on how Tinubu and his wife were faring in Nigeria and to extend Christmas greetings. The literary icon, known for his principled stance and activism, highlighted the embarrassing nature of the visit given the prior disagreement on Tinubu’s presidential ambitions.
As Soyinka and Tinubu navigate their relationship against the backdrop of political developments, this revelation adds an interesting dimension to the dynamics within Nigeria’s political landscape. The interaction between these prominent figures may influence public discourse and perceptions in the coming months.
