Speaking at a Ramadan dinner with members of the Federal judiciary, including Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, President Tinubu emphasized the need to confront kidnapping with the same severity as terrorism. He labeled kidnappers as cowardly individuals who prey on vulnerable targets, particularly children, and emphasized the government’s commitment to eliminating this menace.
The President also addressed the need for judicial reforms, acknowledging the challenges faced by judicial officers and expressing his administration’s determination to improve their welfare and working conditions. He highlighted the importance of fair compensation for judicial officers and pledged to support necessary reforms in the judiciary.
In response, Chief Justice Ariwoola commended the President for hosting the Ramadan dinner and praised his efforts in judicial reforms and improving the welfare of judicial officers. He also expressed gratitude for the President’s initiative in forwarding the executive bill aimed at addressing the stagnant state of judges’ salaries and allowances.
The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, echoed similar sentiments, thanking the President for his commitment to addressing issues affecting the judiciary and acknowledging the significant increase in judges’ salaries proposed by the executive bill.
President Tinubu’s firm stance against kidnapping underscores the gravity of the issue and the government’s determination to combat it effectively. The call to classify kidnappers as terrorists reflects a proactive approach to addressing insecurity and protecting citizens’ safety and well-being.
