President Bola Tinubu has directed his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, and Special Adviser on Political Matters, Ibrahim Masari, to supervise the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for Senate and House of Representatives seats ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, the directive followed high-level consultations involving key government officials and federal lawmakers, where concerns were reportedly raised over fairness, transparency, and adherence to internal party procedures in the candidate selection process.

Under the arrangement, Gbajabiamila and Masari are expected to work closely with APC governors, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), the Senate President, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to ensure proper coordination among stakeholders involved in the primaries.

They will also engage state governors and party leaders nationwide to promote a peaceful and orderly conduct of the exercise, while reporting directly to the President on developments across various states.

The APC National Working Committee will continue to perform its statutory duties as provided by the Electoral Act and party guidelines, including issuing notices for primaries, screening aspirants, constituting election committees, and announcing results.

However, the supervisory team is not expected to override the constitutional powers of the party leadership. Their role will be limited to coordination, monitoring compliance with established procedures, and helping to address disputes that may arise during the process.
