According to Ireporter Online, the immediate past Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, has acquired the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Abubakar, a former governor and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, stated that his action demonstrates his commitment to the party’s internal processes and adherence to democratic principles within the APC.

The development comes as political activities intensify within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections, with aspirants across various states stepping up consultations and strategic positioning ahead of the primaries. Reports confirm that Abubakar, alongside other APC hopefuls in Bauchi State, has formally obtained nomination forms in preparation for the party’s selection process.

Speaking after obtaining the forms, Abubakar explained that his decision was guided by strict compliance with party regulations and respect for internal democracy.

He said the move reflects his disciplined adherence to the APC’s established procedures and his belief in its internal democratic structures.

The former governor also expressed alignment with the party’s position on the method of selecting candidates, whether through consensus or direct primaries, though he noted a preference for the consensus arrangement.

According to him, a consensus approach would foster unity within the party, reduce financial and logistical burdens associated with direct primaries, and minimize disputes that could arise from contested outcomes.

Abubakar further urged other aspirants to embrace dialogue and work towards a collective agreement that would produce a widely acceptable candidate for the party.

He emphasized that early consensus-building would help the APC avoid internal divisions capable of weakening its chances in the general election, stressing the need for unity among stakeholders.

He added that such an approach would deepen internal democracy, strengthen party cohesion, and give members a stronger sense of ownership in the emergence of candidates.

Abubakar also reaffirmed his loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the APC, while expressing appreciation to party stakeholders, supporters, and loyalists for their continued backing.

He pledged that if elected, he would prioritize legacy projects and development-driven governance for the people of Bauchi State. It would be recalled that Abubakar served as Governor of Bauchi State between 2015 and 2019.
