Tinubu Receives Praise For Transformative Reforms In Nigeria’s Oil And Gas Sector

Community-based and civil society organisations under the umbrella of the Citizens Connect Conference have expressed strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his administration’s sweeping reforms in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

According to Ireporter Online, the groups described the reforms as a turning point in governance and institutional renewal, noting that Tinubu’s policies have repositioned the energy sector for greater efficiency, transparency, and investor confidence.

In a communiqué issued at the end of their Lagos conference, and jointly signed by Comrade Halima Mohammed, Executive Director of the Centre for Civic Inclusion; Barrister Chidi Obumneke, Convener of the Young Reformers Network; and Dr. Tunde Alade, Executive Secretary of the South-West Civic Forum, the participants lauded the President for consolidating the achievements of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and strengthening regulatory agencies to deliver results.

The statement praised the leadership of Engr. Gbenga Komolafe at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), highlighting his contributions to transforming the sector’s global reputation. The conference noted that the digitisation of licensing procedures, introduction of stricter compliance standards, and anti-theft measures have collectively boosted production, improved revenue, and rekindled investor confidence.

The communiqué further described these advancements as evidence that institutional reform, when effectively implemented, can drive both economic revitalisation and social inclusion.

Aisha Ibrahim, National Coordinator of the Connected Citizens Movement, remarked that “young people are beginning to see the impact of evidence-based governance. What was once a sector shrouded in opacity has now become a symbol of accountability under this administration.”

The organisations also praised the government’s efforts towards energy transition, local content promotion, and host community participation. They emphasised that the operationalisation of Host Community Development Trusts has turned oil-producing areas into active stakeholders in Nigeria’s prosperity.

Additionally, the groups commended the administration’s “Nigeria’s First Goods and Services” initiative for fostering domestic manufacturing and empowering local entrepreneurs within the oil and gas supply chain.

Comrade Sunday Edet, National Coordinator of the Coalition for Accountable Leadership, said, “This administration has redefined governance in the extractive sector through strong leadership and institutional discipline. The progress achieved in revenue generation, regulatory enforcement, and digital transparency is undeniable. Our support for 2027 is based on evidence — continuity is key to sustaining these gains.”

The communiqué also urged the federal government to expand collaboration with youth-led organisations and state-level stakeholders to enhance policy ownership and transparency throughout the energy value chain.
