Tinubu to Honour 210 Outstanding Corps Members at Presidential Villa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Tuesday, July 29, confer the prestigious President’s National Youth Service Corps Honours Award on 210 exceptional ex-corps members who distinguished themselves in national service between 2020 and 2023.

The award ceremony, which is scheduled to hold at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, by 11:00 a.m., will recognise individuals who demonstrated outstanding commitment, patriotism, and impact during their mandatory one-year national service under the NYSC scheme.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the NYSC, Mr. Emeka Mgbemena, in Abuja.

According to the statement, 200 of the award recipients are former corps members who excelled in all four cardinal areas of the NYSC programme, namely:

• Orientation Course,

• Primary Assignment,

• Community Development Service (CDS),

• Winding-up/Passing-out.

In addition, 10 former corps members who suffered permanent disabilities during their service years will be honoured under the NYSC Hope Alive Initiative, which acknowledges resilience and dedication in the face of adversity.

“These awardees represent the best ideals of youth service, having shown uncommon dedication to national unity and grassroots development,” Mgbemena stated.

The event is expected to attract top government officials, including the Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Ayodele Olawande, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu, members of the NYSC National Governing Board, and other stakeholders.

President Tinubu is expected to present the awards in person, in continuation of the federal government’s commitment to celebrating excellence and encouraging youth engagement in national development.

The NYSC Honours Award is a tradition that dates back to the inception of the scheme, designed to motivate Nigerian graduates who go above and beyond in their service to the nation.

The event will also feature testimonials of the awardees’ projects and initiatives, which range from educational support and healthcare outreach to environmental sustainability and rural infrastructure improvements.

Mgbemena reaffirmed that the NYSC remains committed to promoting youth development, fostering national integration, and recognising those who distinguish themselves in service to Nigeria.
