According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Tinubu has ordered the military to eliminate terrorists responsible for attacks in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, aiming to restore complete peace in the region. Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq confirmed the directive while speaking to journalists in Abuja after a closed-door meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa. The Governor revealed that the first commander for Operation Savannah Shield has already arrived in Kwara State and begun operations. AbdulRazaq noted that his visit to brief the President on the attacks was also to acknowledge the swift federal response.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially registered two new political parties, bringing the total number of recognized parties in Nigeria to 20. According to the electoral body, it received 171 letters of intent from associations seeking registration. Following a rigorous screening process based on constitutional and electoral law provisions, the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA) and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) were formally approved as political parties. The NDC’s registration followed a Federal High Court directive in Lokoja, Kogi State, which INEC promptly complied with.
Senator Samuel Anyanwu, factional National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stated that internal divisions in the party have been resolved. Following a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, Oyo State, Anyanwu declared that his faction will assume control of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Monday. He confirmed Abdulrahman Mohammed as the authentic National Chairman, emphasizing that the party is now ready to field candidates for the 2027 elections.
The Senate Minority Caucus has refuted reports claiming the upper chamber removed electronic transmission provisions from the recently passed Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill. Former Senate Minority Leader Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe stated the caucus issued the clarification to dispel confusion, reiterating that electronic transmission remains intact as stipulated in the 2022 Electoral Act.
The Defence Headquarters, Abuja, explained that the deadly attacks on Woro and neighboring communities in Kaiama Local Government Area were carried out by terrorists frustrated by residents’ refusal to submit to ideological indoctrination. In a statement signed by Director of Defence Information, Samaila Uba, the military described the attacks as cowardly assaults on innocent villagers who had denied the extremists permission to conduct indoctrination sessions.
A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Managing Director of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank, Robert Orya, to 490 years in prison for a ₦2.4 billion fraud. Justice F.E. Messiri delivered the judgment on Thursday after Orya was found guilty on all 49 counts of fraud and abuse of office linked to his tenure at NEXIM between 2011 and 2016.
