Tyranny On The Horizon: Pastor Bakare Raises Red Flag Over Tinubu’s Leadership

In his state of the nation address during the Easter celebrations, Bakare expressed deep concern about the country’s current trajectory, particularly criticizing the erosion of democracy under Tinubu’s administration. He called attention to the collapse of the legislature, which he described as a “bastion of democracy” now failing under the President’s leadership.

Bakare also pointed to the state of emergency declared in Rivers State by President Tinubu, calling it a “theater of the absurd.” He criticized both the President’s actions and the National Assembly for supporting the measure, accusing them of allowing the President’s actions to go unchecked.

“Under your watch, Mr. President, the legislature has become a mere rubber stamp, endorsing every action you take without scrutiny,” Bakare stated, lamenting the passive role the National Assembly has played in the political landscape.

The clergyman also condemned the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, viewing it as a direct assault on accountability and transparency. Akpoti-Uduaghan had demanded greater accountability from Senate President Godswill Akpabio, leading to her suspension. Bakare voiced his disapproval, criticizing the Senate’s increasing role in political violence and corruption.

He expressed shock at the verbal confrontations within the Senate, especially involving Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi and former Education Minister Obi Ezekwesili, and condemned the Senate for devolving into a space of “political rascality” rather than constructive leadership.

Bakare accused the President of using his political influence to turn the National Assembly into a “haven for legislative rascality” and expressed disappointment in its current state. He described the National Assembly as the “most ineffective” in recent history due to political manipulation, telling the President, “This National Assembly is the most ineffective in recent history, thanks to your political manipulation.”
