Umahi: I Refuse To Engage In Conflict With Governor Nwifuru
Chief David Umahi, the Minister of Works, has asserted that no amount of blackmail or external pressure will provoke him into a conflict with Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State. He emphasized that the state has enjoyed a peaceful atmosphere since Nwifuru took office in 2023 and he will not be manipulated into creating discord….READ MORE…..
Speaking at the launch of the 118.85-kilometer superhighway project in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, Umahi highlighted the importance of peace for the development of any region. He remarked, “Some individuals with ulterior motives are trying to instigate a crisis in our state, but I refuse to engage. I have endured manipulation in the past, but I am done with it.”
Umahi, who served as governor of the state for eight years, stated that he previously managed all state structures without outside interference and would not be drawn into contesting with his successor over party matters. “The governor is the party leader in the state, and his authority regarding party structure is final. While party congresses and conventions are taking place, I will be in Dubai; I will not be present here.”
Additionally, he addressed a circulating rumor that Governor Nwifuru had agreed to serve only a single term. Umahi dismissed this notion as unfounded, asserting, “There is no such agreement in existence. I supported him in his bid for governorship unconditionally. His eight-year tenure is guaranteed, and we are already thinking beyond the next six years, as there is no opposition in Ebonyi.”
Reflecting on his own political experience, Umahi observed, “During my tenure, I faced significant challenges and opposition. In contrast, Governor Nwifuru is fortunate to lead without any significant opposition. Those who might have opposed him have joined our ranks, making him the most fortunate governor Ebonyi has ever had.”
Umahi praised Nwifuru for fostering unity within the state and encouraged him to disregard critics and focus on his developmental initiatives. He noted, “Critics of today will eventually recognize your contributions once you leave office. During my governorship, I faced severe criticism, yet now people acknowledge my achievements.”
He concluded by expressing confidence in Nwifuru’s ability to complete his full term, citing the absence of opposition in Ebonyi State. “Governor Nwifuru is exceptionally composed and unaffected by negative social media commentary, and he will serve his full eight years. The people of Ebonyi will rally behind both Nwifuru and Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections.”
Umahi reaffirmed his support for Nwifuru, stating, “I urge you to maintain focus and continue working for the state. You have my backing and that of the good people of Ebonyi State.
