Odoh, who was dismissed after Tinubu dissolved the university’s governing council and accused him of being “unqualified,” maintains that his appointment was legitimate, having been assessed and selected through due process. He challenged the grounds of his removal, asserting that the issue is currently being heard in the Federal High Court and an industrial court.

Odoh further criticized the timing of the president’s decision, claiming that the Education Minister’s premature actions ignored the ongoing legal proceedings. He stressed that no inquiry panel was established to hear his side, and that the council should be the body responsible for any action against him.

He also suggested that ethnic bias played a role in the campaign against him, lamenting the disruption to university operations caused by the void left by the removal of key officials. According to Odoh, the crisis in UNIZIK was exacerbated by the president’s decision, which he believes was based on poor advice.
