The United States dollar traded at ₦1,395 for selling and ₦1,385 for buying at the Lagos parallel market, popularly known as the black market, on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

According to currency traders and Bureau De Change operators in Lagos, the rates reflect the prevailing prices at which individuals exchanged the greenback for the Nigerian naira in the unofficial foreign exchange market.

This means that Nigerians seeking to purchase one dollar from black market dealers were charged ₦1,395, while those selling dollars received ₦1,385 per unit.

Meanwhile, data from the official foreign exchange market showed that the Central Bank of Nigeria benchmark rate ranged between ₦1,355 and ₦1,366 to the dollar.

The apex bank has repeatedly maintained that it does not recognize the parallel market and has advised individuals and businesses with legitimate foreign exchange needs to obtain forex through authorized financial institutions and commercial banks.

Market observers noted that exchange rates in both the official and unofficial markets remain subject to fluctuations depending on demand, supply, transaction volume, and location. As a result, actual buying and selling prices may vary slightly from the figures quoted by traders.
