“Uzodimma Rules Out Handpicking Successor For 2027 Imo Governorship”

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has stressed that the Charter of Equity should not be reduced to a mere slogan that causes confusion but should instead promote unity and collective progress.

Speaking to leaders from Owerri zone during a courtesy visit to Government House Owerri on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, the governor underscored the importance of addressing common challenges through cooperation.

According to iReporter Online, Governor Uzodimma clarified that the Charter of Equity is his initiative aimed at restoring moral order, eliminating confusion, and correcting imbalances in the state’s governance.

He emphasized that it is not a tool for social media misinformation but a serious document designed to foster fairness.

He further stressed that the governorship candidate for 2027 must emerge through a democratic process rather than being handpicked by him.

“The process of selecting a candidate must follow a purely democratic process,” he said, urging Owerri zone to involve other zones and “allow the will of God in all things.”

According to iReporter Online, Uzodimma called on the Owerri leaders to unite in “curing this confusion” and warned that failure to do so under his watch could lead to less disciplined leadership after his tenure.

He encouraged them to focus their efforts on improving security, healthcare, and economic welfare, while slowing down early campaigns since the election remains distant.

The Owerri zone delegation, which cut across political and social lines, pledged their full support to the Charter of Equity.

According to iReporter Online, Chief Charles Amadi, the delegation leader, commended the governor for his ingenuity and assured that the zone is united and committed to peace and justice.

Other notable attendees included former Deputy Governor Prof. Placid Njoku, Chief Louis Alozie, SAN, Ambassador Kema Chikwe, and Chief Henry Njoku, all affirming their support for the governor’s infrastructural projects and the power shift promise embedded in the Charter of Equity.
