According to Ireporter Online, a stakeholders’ meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja descended into chaos on Saturday following a heated confrontation over the party’s senatorial primary process.

The meeting, which brought together key party stakeholders, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Senator, Ireti Kingibe, was convened ahead of the distribution of materials for the senatorial primary election. The Chairman of the election committee, Abubakar Adams Chika, alongside the secretary, David Godwin, had reportedly invited stakeholders to the party’s FCT secretariat to clarify the procedure for the exercise.

Tension escalated when a group of individuals, identified as Tijani Mubarak and four others, allegedly stormed the venue and disrupted proceedings with sticks. The situation quickly degenerated after Tijani confronted the committee chairman over claims of being sidelined from a private engagement, triggering a heated exchange that was captured on video and circulated online.

Sources indicate that Tijani was opposed to the emergence of Ireti Kingibe as the party’s senatorial candidate for the FCT, despite her having been declared winner of the primary election. The confrontation reportedly intensified the already tense political atmosphere within the party.

In a separate development, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has declared himself the most qualified and electable presidential aspirant within the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Amaechi, who previously served as Minister of Transportation, made the assertion during an interview on Arise Television on Friday, citing his extensive leadership experience and relative youth as key advantages over other contenders.

The ADC presidential race also features prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Northern Nigeria Development Company boss Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, all vying for the party’s ticket ahead of the upcoming polls.
