WAFCON Glory Rewarded: Adamawa Showers Super Falcons Coach With ₦50M, House

The Adamawa State Government has honoured Super Falcons head coach, Justine Madugu, for steering Nigeria’s women’s national team to their historic 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.

During a special reception held at the Government House in Yola, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri presented Madugu—an indigene of Numan LGA in Adamawa—with a brand-new three-bedroom bungalow and a ₦50 million cash reward.

The governor lauded Madugu’s coaching expertise, calling the WAFCON victory a remarkable achievement for both the state and the nation.

“It is a proud moment for us in Adamawa that one of our own has led Nigeria to continental glory. His technical brilliance has not only uplifted Nigeria but has made Adamawa shine,” Fintiri stated, according to iReporter Online.

Madugu, visibly emotional, expressed profound gratitude to the governor and the people of Adamawa for the honour bestowed on him. He remarked, “This is overwhelming. I thank God and the people of Adamawa for believing in me.

This victory was more than football—it was a mission to prove that the North can produce world-class leaders in sports.”

He added that he hoped to inspire future generations from the region to dream beyond limits.

Meanwhile, according to iReporter Online, the recognition for WAFCON stars extended beyond Adamawa. In Abuja, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, hosted Super Falcons forward Francisca Ordega at his office, acknowledging her instrumental role in the team’s success.

Ordega, who hails from Benue State, was joined by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah. The minister praised the team’s grit and resilience, commending Ordega for making the state and nation proud.

In response, Ordega expressed appreciation to the minister and Nigerians at large, calling for increased government support for grassroots sports to nurture new talent across the country.
